Gaining Experience

Unread postby KelliBarber » June 20th, 2013, 9:11 am

Hi Everyone!

I am not sure if anyone else has done this, but I recently emailed a banquet and offered my services for free for a week or two just to gain experience. I am new to the industry, so I wasn't sure how it was going to play out. But the Banquet manager is really excited to have me on board and asked if I was looking for a job for September! I know I was back and forth with whether I should do that, but it definitely worked out perfectly! Has anyone else done something like this to get your foot in the door??

HI Kelli,

I haven't but that sounds like a great idea - good for you. Where do you live?

Kelli, this is brilliant for several reasons, one as you mentioned is the experience. Two is the potential contacts you will make. Also, it looks like you already have a job offer. Well done.
